Intelligent Imaging Innovations (3i) is seeking an Embedded Systems Electrical Engineer to join our team in Denver, Colorado.  3i is a global organization that designs and manufactures cutting edge live cell and intravital microscopy imaging platforms. Established in 1995, our collective aim is to provide advanced multi-dimensional microscopy platforms that are intuitive to use, modular in design, and meet the evolving needs of investigators in the biological research community.

The Embedded Systems Electrical Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of system design, including PCB/Cable design and testing, embedded software engineering and product engineering. 

Educational Requirements and Certifications:

BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Functions and Responsibilities:

PCB / Cable design and testing
  • Perform schematic capture, both analog and high speed digital design, including component selection.
  • Layout and route PCB designs, determine component placement, review layout, create BOMs and hand-off for manufacturing.
  • Build and validate prototype PCB builds for functionality.
  • Develop and document test and programming fixtures.
  • Maintain symbol and footprint libraries.
  • Review and update existing designs to add features, improve performance and reduce cost.
  • Design, specify and document all cabling BOMs.
  • Build and validate prototype cables.
  • Develop and document cable testing procedures and fixtures.
Embedded software engineering
  • Develop and maintain FPGA code using NI LabVIEW or other tools.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to design product firmware interface.
  • Code and maintain embedded device firmware.
Product Engineering
  • Collaborate with other engineers to ensure designs are compact and fit appropriately within mechanical housing.
  • Work with Engineering management and other team members to ensure designs are functional and delivered on-time.
  • Work with Engineering management and other team members to validate and improve existing products.
  • Work with manufacturing to design and improve build and test procedures.
Required Skills and Experience:

-Possess a multi-disciplinary interest in mechanical, optical, electrical and computer engineering with the ability to assist in all aspects of product development.
-Demonstrated experience with electrical circuit design, troubleshooting, schematic capture, simulation and PCB layout. 
-Experience with FPGA reference designs or NI FPGA for prototyping.
-Experience with embedded motion control systems.
-C language skills with board bring up experience.
-Experience with communication protocols and standards (USB, RS-232, RS-485, LVDS, Bluetooth).
-Proven ability to independently complete projects.

Desired Skills and Experience:

-Experience with Eagle or Altium preferred. 
-Familiarity with Microchip PIC12/16/32 preferred.
-VHDL/Verilog experience preferred.
